Minoura B60-D Turbo Trainer -
Minoura B60-D Turbo Trainer (Non-Remote)
Minoura B-series: The B-series models offer a good quality trainer without any frills. They have a sturdy stable frame, decent resistance levels, reasonably quiet and great value for money.
Positioning of the B60 model: The B60 model was launched in 2011, especially for the price competitive markets around the world. The frame is a slightly simplified U-shape frame compared to the M70 series, to reduce cost, while the Magnetic resistance unit is very similar to the very successful M70 model. The B60 model is available in either Remote Control or Dial (non-remote) versions.
The Magnetic Resistance Unit: There are 2 versions available, Remote Control and Dial Control. The Dial version (non-remote) offers a nice & simple 3 level resistance, via the manual Dial lever on the unit. On the remote version (B60-R) there are 7 levels, adjustable via the remote control shifter, which fits onto the handlebar. Even though the number of levels is different for both units ( 3 versus 7), the overall resistance is exactly the same, it is just that the steps are larger and on the Dial model you will use the gears of the bike more. Both models also feature an accurately spin-balanced 700 gram flywheel, to assist the roller to retain a smooth rotation at all times.
New U-shape Frame: The B60's frame design looks very similar to the M-series frame. It uses 38mm steel tubing for the U-shape, which is durable enough to supply 100% support, for riders up to 120 kg in weight. The U-shape is supported by 29mm legs, which fold slightly outwards for a very stable platform. They also fold flat for best possible storage. The paint finish of the frame is a rustproof powder coat paint, versus the multi-layer wet-paint for all other models.
Minoura’s Magnetic “Eddy Current” benefits;
- Quiet operation0
- Constant power output
- Controllable resistance
We at Minoura have been the pioneers of magnetic resistance indoor trainers. In the 80’s, there were only two ways to generate resistance; Wind fan and Roller pressure. The Fan type was very noisy, but with a reasonably exponential power curve, up to a certain speed, at which it would stop giving resistance. The Roller pressure type had very fast wear and very unreliable resistance. The Minoura patented system was a major breakthrough in regards to a quiet and smooth resistance system. The basic principles of the “Eddy Current System” are simple. There are two magnets opposing each other, and an alloy disc is located between the magnets. The magnets pull or push each other, depending on their position versus each other. The alloy rotor between the magnets cut the magnetic fields, thus creating resistance. This is a very reliable resistance method, which does not alter the resistance when heating up during exercise. “Eddy Current” system. The current versions of this unit have a similar design, but are more refined and tuned for optimum performance.
Securing the Trainer to the Bicycle:
The first job is to replace the bicycle’s rear-wheel skewer with the one that comes with the trainer, which will ensure a perfect fit and best possible stability for the bicycle. The rear-wheel is then slipped between the axle holders and the adjustable side is tightened till very firm. Please do not use anything but hands to tighten the hub handle, there is no need for this. The resistance unit is then tightened against the tyre itself with a dial-knob.
